Today, we take a look at Vulture Film and TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz's summary of the best television of 2016.

In sharp contrast to the year in film, Zoller Seitz writes "This is, hands down, the best year for scripted television since I became a critic of film and TV 25 years ago; it might be the best year since I started watching TV as a kid in the 1970s."

With so many network, cable, premium, and streaming options to choose from, it's little wonder that we are seeing the best work of television creators: the sheer amount of stories being told guarantees that there will be more than a few gems. This list highlights newcomers like Atlanta on FX and my personal favorite of the year, Stranger Things on Netflix, as well as some shows that are several seasons into their run or saying farewell, including The Americans on FX and the excellent Rectify on Sundance.
