Falling in Love over 'Firefly'

Happy Valentines Day!

This year, I decided to make a goal of getting 100 rejections. No, not romantically. From editors and publishers. I made this goal after seeing this post last year about flipping your perspective on submissions. The bottom line: aim for rejection, and the fear of failure won't hold you back from trying to succeed.

Then I came upon this amazing thread on Twitter, and have been spending the better part of a month writing down all of the wonderful places to pitch. After seeing one for Tor.com that took personal essays on science fiction and fantasy, I decided to take my chances. And lo and behold, it got accepted! Yesterday, my second-ever personal essay, called "Falling In Love Over Firefly," was published. It's a Valentines Day-themed post about how our mutual love for Joss Whedon's space western led to my wife and I falling in love.

Enjoy! And keep pitching - you never know what might happen!
